New Worcester Combi Installation in Felixstowe

The brief

A homeowner in Felixstowe got in touch after a neighbour passed Joby's number along. Their 15-year-old system boiler was taking up most of the airing cupboard, banging on every start-up, and the gas bills had crept up year on year. They wanted the cupboard space back and a quieter, more efficient setup. Joby Howe came out for a free survey, talked the family through the options, and recommended a Worcester Bosch 30Si combi to replace the old boiler and cylinder in one go. A fixed quote was put in writing before any tools came out of the van.

What we did

• Removed the old system boiler and the unvented cylinder, and cleared the airing cupboard out.
• Re-routed the gas and water pipework to suit the new combi position.
• Fitted the new Worcester Bosch 30Si combi with a magnetic system filter.
• Power-flushed the central heating system before commissioning to clear out years of sludge.
• Commissioned the boiler to manufacturer spec and issued the Benchmark certificate.
• Registered the 10-year Worcester manufacturer warranty in the homeowner's name.
• Notified Building Regs through the Gas Safe scheme on the family's behalf.

Start to finish, the job took a day and a half. Day one was the strip-out and pipework, day two was the install, flush, commissioning, and handover.

The result

The airing cupboard is back in use as storage for the first time in years, and the kitchen sounds completely different in the morning without the old boiler clanking through start-up. Hot-water flow at the shower and kitchen tap is noticeably stronger than the old cylinder-fed system, and there is no waiting for the tank to reheat after a couple of showers back-to-back.

The family checked their smart meter after the first month and the running costs were down on the same period last year, even with the new combi running on demand. The homeowner is now on Howe Heating's annual service rota so the warranty stays valid and the boiler stays in good shape for the long run.
